Why aren't my rockband drums working?

I just got drums yesterday for rockband, I was playing for about 45 minutes this morning maybe an hour, just now I go to set it up, the actual x, a, b, on the drum work and I can use it, but the pads don't work, nothing works, I just got this last night how could I have broken it already, I don't think it's broke but what's happening?
