What was Hitler's reason for the Anschluss annexing Austria into Germany?

Most Austrians were in favour of joining their fellow Germans, plus they were probably even more anti-semetic than Germany. Hitler was Austrian also, so he probably didn't want to kill his own people, although im sure he would have. Austria had allot of valuable iron and coal which Hitler would need.
